ANTIQUE PRESSED GLASS BOWL
Striking, large and lovely antique pressed glass bowl 8-1/2" wide by 4-1/2" tall. Featuring a thick glass bowl decorated with round pressed dots, short pedestal foot and metal lid, it bears a starburst pattern in the foot base. Lid is hinged in the middle and both sides can be lifted open - bowl is heavy. Designed as an ice cream parlor or soda fountain master sauce or topping bowl, lid would remain closed to protect the product.
Dating to around the turn of last century, condition is lovely with no hairlines, cracks, discoloration or repairs -- as shown, there are two flake style chips on the underside curve of the bowl next to the dots - lid is without rust or damage, but does have minor denting from use with darkening to the metal from age - interior has fine scrape marks from a spoon or scoop - a few inclusions cased in the glass from make.
I purchased this from a defunct ice cream parlor/chocolate shop in Cleveland, Ohio - wonderful addition to any collection!
