Description
Up for auction is a very nice clean Horlick's soda fountain jar and lid in wonderful condition, likely from the 1940's or 50's. While it is not rare, it does not come up for auction often. It?s a large jar that measures about 6" across and 8" high, 10" with the aluminum top. It's also heavy, weighing over 3-lbs. Would likely set in the fountain area of a drug store or soda shop for easy access. The large opening allows for a good size scoop or spoon without damaging the glass rim.
Bottom of jar shows little counter wear, the top rim with 2-mold lines directly across from each other. The top rim is molded to the jar; a very fine line holds the two together. There are 2 for 3 air bubbles, but no chips or cracks that I can detect, some roughness at mold lines.
The enameled cobalt blue lettering is bright and in super good condition. Because of the size of this jar the cobalt lettering appears three times (pictures of each). You can run your finger across the lettering and actually feel how thick the lettering is.
Easy on/easy off top made of a very soft material (likely aluminum), and I believe it is original. At one time I had the smaller jar and it had the same top, I've also seen other jars for sale with the same top. I think some of the very early jars with small openings had glass tops making them more decorative. But large jars with a 6" openings were more practical with metal tops; also less chance of glass chips in the malt powder. The top is in good condition and fits on the jar, but there is a little warping (see pics). The top will be double boxed for shipping.
